Strasburg, Virginia
Luxury River Retreat • Hot Tub, Views, Fire Pit
About the property
Perched above the Shenandoah, Hygge River House wraps you in quiet luxury—river views from the hot tub, morning light through the trees, and a fire waiting at night. A fully equipped kitchen, high-end linens, plush towels and robes, plus a movie & game room make every stay feel elevated.
Step inside to the main level and discover an open kitchen and dining area, fully equipped for home-cooked meals and easy gatherings. Just beyond, the living room offers an all-season electric fireplace and comfortable seating to enjoy slow mornings or cozy evenings. Two queen bedrooms sit off the main living area, each designed with soft lighting, restful linens, and a sense of quiet simplicity. A full bathroom with shower and bathtub is located nearby.
A few steps down from the main floor, the bright sunroom features wraparound windows and a touch of the home’s history—its original record player, now a decorative piece. It’s an inviting spot for reading, morning coffee, or simply taking in the light.
Descend to the lower level, where floor-to-ceiling windows open to mountain views. This level includes a movie and game room with a 65” TV, foosball table, and comfortable lounge seating. Three sliding glass doors lead directly onto the lower deck, perfect for relaxing in the sun or unwinding after sunset. A half bathroom is also located just off the main area.
Upstairs, two additional bedrooms provide additional sleeping spaces. The primary bedroom features a queen bed and a private full bathroom; the second includes two twin beds. Each room carries the same calming design and thoughtful details found throughout the property.
Outside, you will discover multiple decks designed for different rhythms of the day—dining, lounging, or simply soaking in the mountain air. The nearby hot tub and fire pit offer peaceful spots to unwind under the stars or share a quiet drink by the glow of the flames. Guests occasionally spot bald eagles gliding overhead or perched in the nearby trees. A private trail winds down the hillside to the river, ending in a quiet grassy clearing for reflection, but please note the path is fairly steep and may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility. The front yard also offers open space for play and connection, with room for Cornhole, badminton, and Spikeball on sunny afternoons.
Enhance your stay with our concierge add-ons, available after booking confirmation—grocery delivery, special-occasion décor, private chefs, and curated winery tours (additional service fees apply).
Why “Hygge River House”?
Hygge (pronounced “hoo-gah”) is a Danish word that celebrates warmth, comfort, and simple pleasures—like a crackling fire, a warm drink, or time spent with loved ones. Hygge River House was designed in that spirit: a peaceful retreat where guests can slow down, recharge, and reconnect with the natural beauty of the Shenandoah Valley.
📕 Property Guide • After booking, we'll share our detailed property guide with local recommendations, including our favorite wineries, restaurants, hiking trails, and more. The guide also includes helpful property details and tips to make the most of your stay.
⚡ Vehicle Access & EV Charging • The home is accessible year-round via paved and gravel roads, with the final quarter mile on well-maintained gravel. Most vehicles (2WD) can reach the property easily; during winter or icy conditions, AWD or 4WD may be recommended or required. The driveway accommodates up to four vehicles. A dedicated Level 2 EV charger with both Tesla (NACS) and J1772 connectors is provided for guest use.
📶 Connectivity • High-speed WiFi supports streaming, remote work, and video calls throughout the home. Cell service can be limited in the area, but once connected to WiFi, guests remain reliably online.
🐕 Pets • Due to allergies and property setup, pets are not permitted at Hygge River House. Guests seeking a dog-friendly stay are encouraged to explore our nearby pet-welcoming cabins.
🚼 Family-Friendly Amenities • Families will find everything needed for a seamless stay, including a Pack ’n Play crib, full-sized highchair, and children’s tableware.
🧯 Safety & Cleanliness • All bedding, linens, and quilts are professionally laundered between each reservation. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits are provided.
🦌 Wildlife and Surroundings • Hygge River House is surrounded by nature, and it is common to see deer, rabbits, foxes, box turtles, groundhogs, and the occasional black bear in the area. Please avoid leaving food, trash, or scented items outdoors, as these can attract wildlife. While the home is serviced by a professional pest control company, occasional insects may make their way inside. We’re just a message away if anything seems out of the ordinary.
🌊 River Access • A private trail leads down to the riverfront, ending in a peaceful grassy clearing perfect for reading or reflection. The path is fairly steep and may not be suitable for small children or guests with mobility limitations—please use caution and proper footwear.
🛶 Water Recreation • For those eager to get on the water, Deer Rapids Bridge (just a 3-minute drive or 10–15 minute walk) offers public river access for kayaking and canoeing. Swimming or launching directly from the property is not advised due to safety and terrain.
🛍️ Strasburg Emporium (10 min) • A favorite stop for antique and vintage lovers, featuring 60+ dealers under one roof with everything from home décor and books to art and collectibles. If you like the décor style in our home, you’ll especially enjoy browsing the owner’s curated booth of vintage home finds for similar pieces.
🧹 Landscaping & Hot Tub Services • During your stay, our landscaping or hot tub care team may visit the home as needed. We will notify you in advance whenever possible. These visits are brief, exterior only, and do not require access inside the home.
We’re available via phone and text throughout your stay. We typically take a hands-off approach to respect your privacy, but are always happy to assist with questions or concerns.

From check-in to check-out, our stay at the Hygge River House was perfect! The house was incredibly clean and well cared for. Our group had an amazing time just relaxing and being in nature. The hosts were extremely responsive, and are clearly passionate about hosting. 10/10, would recommend!
Book it! The home and grounds were as breathtaking as the photos. The home had everything we needed (from 6 years old to 60s) and was so cozy, yet had space for us all. The attention to detail was amazing. We felt bad leaving the home to go explore the area and National Park.
Sublime location and excellent hose. One of the best Airbnb’s we have stayed in. Will be back.
